O'connor Woods
Stockton, California

The new Memory Care Building is a residential building dedicated to wellness living for residents with memory loss. The existing O’Connor Woods residential campus contains a mix of residential and recreational buildings located within a native oak grassland.  The building includes three outdoor courtyards as well pedestrian paths around the building. Located along the Stockton levee and adjacent to a grove of existing Valley Oak, site development included preservation of large Valley Oak specimen trees.  The softscape design develops a landscape concept that engages the native oak woodland character of the original pre-construction site, while providing areas of diverse plantings that provide visual and mental stimulation for the residents. Another aspect of the softscape design was to create plantings along the Stockton levee that met the requirements of the State of California flood protections zone and storm water C3 regulations.

ABLA provided site development, hardscape and softscape design and tree preservation:  including: courtyard, pathway and hardscape design, planting design and existing tree preservation.  Work includes schematic design through construction observation.
