Located on a 12 acre site in Morgan Hill, California, the Oakwood School, formally Morgan Hill Country School, is an academic community offering education at the levels of early childhood development, and kindergarten through 8th grade.  The philosophy of the school is the total development of the child.  The school seeks to provide a balanced education for students, creating opportunities within the campus environment to develop the total person.  To that end, the campus master plan provided a variety of outdoor areas for students and opportunities for interaction among students, teachers and parents.

The site work and landscape design includes: an academic court courtyard for group gathering, special events and parent waiting,  a great lawn/performing area, student gardens,  active field play areas for older  children, structured play environments for early childhood education, homelike settings for extended care students and a children’s reading garden.  The design for these areas reinforces the spirit of the school teaching philosophy, maximizes the available outdoor space and creates multiple layers of activities that can be scheduled by the teaching staff.

ABLA provided site planning and landscape design for the 12 acre school site.  Services included: programming of all play and site areas, layout of all site areas, design of multiple play areas based upon age groups and skill level, grading and detailing of hardscape, softscape development.   Designs were developed within specific budget requirements.  Work included schematic design through construction observation.
