Mission Bay Master Plan

In 1997, Antonia Bava Landscape Architects was selected to join the Mission Bay Master Plan Team in the development of the Mission Bay Master Plan and Design for Development. In this capacity, ABLA worked with two architectural teams, Johnson Fain and SMWM, KCA Civil Engineers, and the Olin Partnership in the development of the of the Master Plan. Located on a 300 acre site, the area is bounded by King Street to the North, Mariposa to the South, the bayfront in the East and 280 Freeway on thin the West. The total project is to consist of over 6,000 housing units, mixed use retail, urban entertainment complexes, public open space areas, a magnet high school site and the new UCSF Biotechnology campus. The plan is for a 20 year, phased, build out of this project.
The landscape design portion of the Master Plan for Redevelopment consists of an open space for development which includes approximately 50 acres of parks, pedestrian and bike trails, children’s playgrounds, public open spaces, and playfields and play courts. It also includes improvements to the Mission Creek channel edge and the bay shoreline. The Plan preparation relied heavily upon a one year public review process, and meetings with the Community Advisory Committee (CAC), the Mayor’s Office, and the Bay Conservation Development Corporation, the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency and City Planning Department and the Mission Creek Housing Association.
