Asian Art Museum of San Francisco
San Francisco, California

The new Asian Art Museum for the City of San Francisco is located on a prominent 2.1 acre site within the Civic Center area of San Francisco.  Formerly the Main Library, the Beaux Arts building was renovated to incorporate seismic upgrading and a world class museum.  The landscape scope of work includes topiary terraces for sculpture display, a terrace café, streetscape and urban amenities.

The landscape image for the museum site is intended to evoke the classic topiary forms of the Asian Mogul gardens creating a design dialogue with the classic French Beaux Arts building facades.  The streetscape and urban design elements of the site are also intended to evoke the original 1912 Beaux Arts master plan for the Civic Center Area.  A major focus of the site development was the creation of a landscape design that incorporates the base isolation structural improvements to the existing building.
